- Wear layers so that you can remove and add clothing when needed; depending on where you are in the moving process as well as the day.
- Drink plenty of water. This is always important; moving or not!
- Summer is peak moving season – with that in mind, you should be able to get better rates on moving items, truck rentals, moving estimates, etc.
- Do not try to pack while watching football! This may seem funny, but make sure you label your boxes and pack them with care. Always fill your boxes to the top – so that they won’t cave in when moving.
- Blow your driveway and walking path the day of your move. This will help keep leaves and debris off the moving truck; which will help your furniture stay clean.
Good Luck with your move and feel free to post questions and comments on our blog and Facebook page!
Are you a first time home buyer? If you are there are advantages to you buying a home, such as, tax breaks, interest free loans, etc. To find out more about these opportunities visit: www.dca.ga.gov/housing/Homeownership/programs/GeorgiaDream.asp.
If you are not a first time home buyer; there are still plenty of reasons to purchase a home. First, as previously stated, the rates and prices of homes have not been this good for a decade. So you can purchase more home for less of the price; or you can save on the house you would have purchased.
If you are interested in looking for a home, make sure to figure out how much you want to spend and what interest rate you want. There are mortgage calculators you can use to figure out what the payment will be like on different homes. It will be easier if you get pre-approved and also help you secure a house faster when you find it! It is always best to be prepared when making decisions. Try to make the payment 1/3 of your take home pay or less; that will ensure you are not overwhelmed with your payment.
When looking at a home make sure that it will not be a money pit. Fixing up a home is a good idea, but make sure that you will have the time and money to dedicate to these projects. If you do not have time for extra projects then play it safe when looking at what a house will need. The bathrooms and kitchens sell a home. Make sure that you will not throw a lot of money in other areas of the house if you are not looking to stay there long term.
We hope this article was helpful and good luck with searching for your new home! Do not hesitate with any questions and as always we love your feedback!
There are many things to think about when moving. There may even be things you will not think of until after the move such as: what is normal wear and tear during your move? We all want our belongings to be treated with care, but unfortunately accidents occur.
First, look at your pieces of furniture and note if they have imperfections currently. This will help you to know if something new has occurred or if the blemish was already on the piece of furniture. When moving to a new home, we will be quicker to notice something, because the surroundings have changed.
Next, once you know what the current state of your furniture, is to note any special pieces. If you have an antique, for example, make sure to point these out to your movers to ensure that they can take proper precautions.
Once, you have moved to your new home – take a look around and see what if any rubs or scratches have occurred. Note that some rubbing on the bottom of pieces is normal. There is an easy fix, for any rubs on your furniture, which is a furniture pen. These are available at Lowes and many other home specialty stores. You may also need to touch up the walls in a few places; if you had large pieces placed in smaller areas of the house. If you are going to paint your new home then this does not matter! Please do not hesitate to post questions and Happy Moving Day!
The first thing to take into consideration is the weather. So is it hot outside (this is middle GA so most of the time – yes), is it raining, etc. These simple questions can help you narrow down your selections for the day of the move.
Next, if it is hot then you will want to wear clothing with fabric that is light and airy (dry fit clothing would work nicely). You also need to think about what sort of role you will be taking on your moving day. So if you are hiring movers then you will not be as active as you would be if you are not hiring movers. These things will also be key to helping you find that perfect outfit for the day! If you will be moving things or rearranging furniture keep in mind that when you are getting dressed – you might want to wear something that you do not mind getting dirty or soiled.
Lastly, wear something that you feel comfortable in for the day of your move. This is important, because you will be in this for the duration. If we do not feel comfortable in what we are wearing then that will throw off your whole day; so pick well and you will be glad you did!

Unfortunately, there are moving companies that take advantage of their customers by stealing their money. We are going to help you make sure that you are not the next victim of one of these rogue companies! Here are a few steps you can take to assure that this will not happen to you:
- Ask about the company’s payment policy. If the company states that they need the entire amount up front then do not use that company! It is illegal in the state of Georgia to require the entire amount up front (It makes you wonder what else the company might be doing that is illegal).
- Always play it safe when you are dealing with your family’s possessions. This seems like common sense, but sometimes we ignore what is in front of us!
- Go with a reputable company. Ask around and check out the BBB.
A moving company should require half down when the furniture is loaded and the other half should be remitted when the company is finished loading in the new residence. We have heard so many horror stories about illegitimate moving companies –ask questions, play it smart and you will not be next!
The term “white glove service” indicates a company that goes the extra mile for its customers. When referring to a moving company, this term implies a business that takes special care to address every need of their clients. Whether moving a family across town or helping an entire corporation transport confidential files and equipment; a full service moving company boasting white glove service handles it all.
A company offering this service requires special training of its employees to ensure they meet requirements and understand the attention to detail necessary for the job. The company often provides special touches such as door-to-door services, or removal of old appliances if they have been replaced. In addition, they assist by unpacking items from boxes and removing all cleaning or packing materials out of the home after the move is complete. These companies aim to relieve the client of the stress and worry that comes with the relocation process.
During a large move, the unpacking process can be the most time-consuming portion. These companies offer unpacking and assembling services: which can get an entire office ready for work first thing on Monday or help make a family’s transition smoother for children. These movers will make arrangements, with the prior home or business occupants, to ensure that your items are expected and will be safe until you arrive.
There are many things that can be expected of these professional moving services, including the clean appearance of employees when they arrive at your home on the big day. The movers will also have gone through the highest training to provide the premier quality service and the expertise to handle even highly delicate items like antiques. Many of these companies will also assure you that if anything is broken in the process of packing or delivering, it will be replaced at no additional cost to you.
There are often additional charges for white glove moving services. Due to the special training required, these services must be arranged well in advance of your moving date. The company will want to have an in-home consultation and discussion of your needs to be certain they can provide you with the perfect experience. After this conversation and inspection, you should be given an estimate of charges, which can help you in your final decision.
Many of these companies also provide facilities where your items can be safely stored until your new home is ready. The goal of these businesses is to provide first-class professional service at competitive rates. If white glove service sounds like the right fit for your next move, be aware that there are few companies offering it – and those who do may be quite busy.
