Time Management

It seems that there are never enough hours in the day! With that being said, there are several things you can do to make your time seem to stretch a little longer each day and to ease the stress from piling up. Time management has many benefits, but most of all it will allow you to spend more free time doing the things you love!

I am a firm believer in to-do lists. They are very important for me to help me keep track of all the things that need to be attended to on a regular basis. You can have several different types of to-do lists, for example, a work, personal, etc.

1) Figure out how you want to keep track of your lists. You can keep them on a regular notepad or in your phone / tablet. There are a lot of apps available for this. Just pick the medium you will actually USE!

2) Decide how many to-do lists you need and then categorize them.

3) Write everything down that you need to accomplish in your different categories.

4) Prioritize each list – so that you can know what to do first each day.

5) Remember to include and prioritize new tasks on your list as you think of them. (If you have a large project – make it into something more manageable that you can check off each day).

If you stick to these guidelines you are sure to live a more satisfying and rewarding life!
Thank you again for taking the time to read our November newsletter and we look forward to checking in with you next month!  Sincerely,

Creating a New Space!

There are many tasks to complete when it comes to moving. One that is often overlooked is choosing what to take with you to your new home and what to donate. This is a cleansing experience and you do not have to wait until you move to try this!

When sorting through your things to purge; keep in mind what style your next home is going to be. This may be the time to get the new furniture you have been saving up to buy; or that rug may be need to discarded and replaced with a better suited rug for the space. Again, you do not have to move to go through this process. You may want to change the design of your living room and the couch and chair may need to go in place of a different style or colored couch (you can also have them refinished or place covers for a different look).

This is also a great time to get the family involved and have some fun choosing your layout! There are some great tools on the internet that will help you if you get stumped or get a magazine and look at the pictures for inspiration!

*Tip – Shower regularly and your friends and family will appreciate it!

Moving in the Cold Weather

Moving can be stressful, especially if you are not prepared. One of the best ways to help prepare for your move, is to anticipate things that you will need the day of your move and to make sure that you and your family are comfortable. Comfort is important and you cannot be comfortable if you are wearing the wrong clothing!
Moving in the cold can be hard if you are not wearing the right type of clothing.

First, you need to make sure you leave enough clothes to wear the day of your move. Do not pack up too much clothing – like your jacket! Next, you will want to wear several layers. This will help ensure you have enough clothing, but you can remove and add as your warmth fluctuates.

If it is snowing where you are moving from or to make sure that the walk areas are cleared so that you and your movers can get to the house. Also, place down safety mats if the area is slippery!

We wish you the best of luck with your move and hope that we are on it with you!Don’t forget to check out our website at http://www.TaylorFamilyCompanies.com and friend us on Facebook!

*Tip – don’t try to pet a wild tiger

Moving - A chance to cleanse?

Most people think of moving as a chore and do not look forward to the experience.  There is another way to look at the experience of moving.  We can look at this as a time to cleanse our homes as well as ourselves.

Have you ever watched one of those reality hoarder shows and thought this might be me one day?  Most of us do and will at some time in our life, because it is a natural reaction to try and hold on to our things.  What we do not realize is that we need different things; at different phases of our lives and sometimes never again, for example, a pacifier.  So don’t worry if you have your old pacifier in a drawer somewhere we will help you figure out what to keep and what to cleanse.

First, when you decide to move go through everything.  I would suggest doing this before you get a moving quote, because you will hopefully have less to be moved and will receive a more accurate quote.  When you go through your boxes think about the last time you used these things or even looked at them.  Now I am not saying do not keep mementos, because we all need some of those!  Just try and figure out what is a memento and what is taking up space.

This is a cleansing experience!  It is proven that when we are around clutter we feel stressed and less centered.   Get rid of anything that has a negative history associated with it.  We have enough things in life to go through without holding on to the negatives of the past.

* Tip – if you do find your old Pacifier – junk it!

Fall Moving Tips

Now that fall is in full swing, we have a few moving tips that we think you will find helpful!

  • Wear layers so that you can remove and add clothing when needed; depending on where you are in the moving process as well as the day.
  • Drink plenty of water.  This is always important; moving or not!
  • Summer is peak moving season – with that in mind, you should be able to get better rates on moving items, truck rentals, moving estimates, etc.
  • Do not try to pack while watching football!  This may seem funny, but make sure you label your boxes and pack them with care.  Always fill your boxes to the top – so that they won’t cave in when moving.
  • Blow your driveway and walking path the day of your move.  This will help keep leaves and debris off the moving truck; which will help your furniture stay clean.

Good Luck with your move and feel free to post questions and comments on our blog and Facebook page!

How to Know if you are Ready to Take the Plunge

Housing prices rates and have not been this good for at least a decade.  So are you ready to buy a home?  We will help you figure out the answer to that in this article.

Are you a first time home buyer?  If you are there are advantages to you buying a home, such as, tax breaks, interest free loans, etc.  To find out more about these opportunities visit:

If you are not a first time home buyer; there are still plenty of reasons to purchase a home.  First, as previously stated, the rates and prices of homes have not been this good for a decade.  So you can purchase more home for less of the price; or you can save on the house you would have purchased.

If you are interested in looking for a home, make sure to figure out how much you want to spend and what interest rate you want.  There are mortgage calculators you can use to figure out what the payment will be like on different homes.  It will be easier if you get pre-approved and also help you secure a house faster when you find it!  It is always best to be prepared when making decisions.  Try to make the payment 1/3 of your take home pay or less; that will ensure you are not overwhelmed with your payment.

When looking at a home make sure that it will not be a money pit.  Fixing up a home is a good idea, but make sure that you will have the time and money to dedicate to these projects.  If you do not have time for extra projects then play it safe when looking at what a house will need.  The bathrooms and kitchens sell a home.  Make sure that you will not throw a lot of money in other areas of the house if you are not looking to stay there long term.

We hope this article was helpful and good luck with searching for your new home!  Do not hesitate with any questions and as always we love your feedback!

What is Normal Wear and Tear during Your Move

There are many things to think about when moving.  There may even be things you will not think of until after the move such as: what is normal wear and tear during your move?  We all want our belongings to be treated with care, but unfortunately accidents occur.

First, look at your pieces of furniture and note if they have imperfections currently.  This will help you to know if something new has occurred or if the blemish was already on the piece of furniture.  When moving to a new home, we will be quicker to notice something, because the surroundings have changed.

Next, once you know what the current state of your furniture, is to note any special pieces.  If you have an antique, for example, make sure to point these out to your movers to ensure that they can take proper precautions.

Once, you have moved to your new home – take a look around and see what if any rubs or scratches have occurred.  Note that some rubbing on the bottom of pieces is normal.  There is an easy fix, for any rubs on your furniture, which is a furniture pen.  These are available at Lowes and many other home specialty stores.  You may also need to touch up the walls in a few places; if you had large pieces placed in smaller areas of the house.  If you are going to paint your new home then this does not matter!  Please do not hesitate to post questions and Happy Moving Day!

What to Wear on Moving Day

This question is usually on the forefront of most women’s minds daily and moving day is no exception.  We will help you figure out what the best outfit for the day of your move.

The first thing to take into consideration is the weather.  So is it hot outside (this is middle GA so most of the time – yes), is it raining, etc.   These simple questions can help you narrow down your selections for the day of the move.

Next, if it is hot then you will want to wear clothing with fabric that is light and airy (dry fit clothing would work nicely).  You also need to think about what sort of role you will be taking on your moving day.   So if you are hiring movers then you will not be as active as you would be if you are not hiring movers.  These things will also be key to helping you find that perfect outfit for the day!  If you will be moving things or rearranging furniture keep in mind that when you are getting dressed – you might want to wear something that you do not mind getting dirty or soiled.

Lastly, wear something that you feel comfortable in for the day of your move.  This is important, because you will be in this for the duration.   If we do not feel comfortable in what we are wearing then that will throw off your whole day; so pick well and you will be glad you did!

When to Pay for Your Moving Services

Unfortunately, there are moving companies that  take advantage of their customers by stealing their money.  We are going to help you make sure that you are not the next victim of one of these rogue companies!  Here are a few steps you can take to assure that this will not happen to you:

  • Ask about the company’s payment policy.  If the company states that they need the entire amount up front then do not use that company!  It is illegal in the state of Georgia to require the entire amount up front  (It makes you wonder what else the company might be doing that is illegal).
  • Always play it safe when you are dealing with your family’s possessions.  This seems like common sense, but sometimes we ignore what is in front of us!
  • Go with a reputable company.  Ask around and check out the BBB.

A moving company should require half down when the furniture is loaded and the other half should be remitted when the company is finished loading in the new residence.  We have heard so many horror stories about illegitimate moving companies –ask questions, play it smart and you will not be next!
